1 Find your state’s qualifications for Notary Public’s and do whatever it takes to meet all the qualifications
2 Get a copy of the CA Notary Public application, complete it and turn it in!
3 Pay $40 for the CA filing fee (it includes the exam too!)
4 Locate an approved education vendor and enroll in your mandatory 6-hour training course (http://notaryeducation.sos.ca.gov/)
5 Take the state-administered exam and pass!
6 Take a current form of ID to an approved Live Scan location and have fingerprints taken
7 Receive your commission certificate from the state
8 Buy a $15,000 surety bond
9 File your pubic oath and surety bond within 30 days of the commencement date of commission at the county clerk’s office
10 Congratulations! You’re a notary! Time to buy your supplies!
